When people compare Stargate: Universe to other sci-fi show’s they talk about Battlestar Galactica. usually negatively. The comparison is an obvious one because stylistically the two shows are very similar. but there is another comparison that doesn’t get made nearly as often. Stargate: Universe has a lot in common with Star Trek Voyager.
Take a look at the basic concept of both shows:
Lost in a different galaxy so far from home that they will likely never see Earth again. The ship’s crew must overcome distrust and antagonisms to work together and survive.
That could describe either Stargate: Universe or Star Trek: Voyager wouldn’t you say?
I’ve had this comparison in the back of my mind ever since Stargate: Universe first aired, but what brought it back to the surface was the recent news that for Season 2 of Universe the writers plan to introduce a recurring villain. in itself that’s a good thing. one of the problems with Universe so far has been the lack of a clearly defined enemy.
However, I have to question the use of the Lucian Alliance. The alliance were originally introduced towards the end of SG-1’s run. The whole point of Universe was to move away from the familiar and explore new aliens, new societies and new enemies. this was of course the exact same premise for Voyager too, and they also ended up introducing some familiar faces.
There comes a point in any franchise where the uniqueness and originality has been mined out of the setting and desperate measure are taken to try and keep things going. I think most people would probably point to Star Trek: Voyager as the moment that the Star Trek franchise began to founder. it was such a significant cultural phenomenon that it kept going for years after that, but it gradually slid into obscurity.
Stargate, despite it’s longevity, has not had nearly the social impact that Star Trek did and I have to wonder how quickly the Stargate franchise could fade if they continue to make the same mistakes that Star Trek did.
Of course franchises can be resurrected. Look at the phenomenal success of the recent Star Trek movie. but in that case it took a full reboot to undo a decade’s worth of damage and I don’t think Stargate has that luxury.
What do you think? will Stargate: Universe survive beyond the second season? Is there some way to rejuvenate the franchise with out a full reboot? How would you fix it?

Reflecting tensions and antagonisms building up in Europe, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev is calling for a new European treaty to replace the existing structures of NATO and the OSCE.

Labor time is an objective quantifiable measure. The reason it is what lies behind value and not mass, weight, etc, is that the exchange value of commodities is what apportions the labor of society between different tasks. Do you understand this point? This is different than subjective value. You are referring to a different concept when you talk about subjective value. You are replacing one definition for another and calling it an argument.
Do you have copper old medal water pipes that go into the earth where
you have seen this. If so you can use that as a ground while at home
but when you leave your house seek compliance grounded wired sites.
There is no fake ground substitute that I know of. It sounds like you
know your home is a danger if an appliance gets grounded and you or
someone comes in contact with it.
Then the characters would just be able to solve their plot problem. Someone has to get in the way, or it's nothing much to write a movie about.
I bid five of your earth pounds. As I don't have any more actual cash…
are you serious ‘mainstream cosmology is going nowhere’ where making progress like never before.
i've noticed this to and i also have a few experiences that supports your claim but id rather not go into them cuz its early and it would set me off
i dont not wanna get pissed off this early in the morning
The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonisms.
what spending are the really going to cut – health care for the aging? unemployment benifits? education? or the trillions spent for a rare earth mineral land grab?

There is a hint of truth here: I sincerely believe that the "ruling class" is happy when the rest of us fight amongst ourselves.
However, there is no way on earth that Harry Reid or Chuck Schumer will ever be "the same" as Jim DeMint; that Eric Cantor will be confused with Nancy Pelosi; or that Sean Hannity and Keith Olberman would have a thimbleful of the same agenda.

“Some of the best recent empirical work in political science has shown that most Americans attempt to vote in accordance with their economic interests, rather than by the dictates of ephemeral antagonisms over God, gays, or guns. Unfortunately, economic improvements for the vast majority of Americans over the past three decades have been so marginal that they are easily overshadowed by cynical manipulations of the political business cycle, the timing of economic expansions with election years, and by the strange fact that lower-income voters are more sensitive, in terms of voting behavior, to income growth among the wealthy than they are to their own economic well-being.”

The antagonist is by far one of the most important characters in a story. If his actions are forced or his character undeveloped, the whole piece can fall flat. To give depth and meaning to your villain, you're going to what to rethink his character a little bit to find the reasons behind his actions. There a couple of resources you can look at for examples of characters and character traits that could lead him to a life of evil or crime.
The Writer's Guide to Character Traits by Linda N. Edelstein is a great book written by a psychologist. It discusses influences on a person's character and lists possible explanations and motives for behavior. It could be helpful. Another consider is 45 Master Characters by Victoria Lynn Schmidt. This book analyzes classic archetypes from Greek myth that have appeared in various incarnations throughout literary history. It explains the chief motivations of each archetypes and gives examples of them in books and film. You might be able to incorporate some of the traits from these archetypes to craft a better character.
From what it sounds like, your villain is a bit flat, not rounded, and thus your story has become more plot-driven than it should be. The best stories are those where the characters drive the action of the novel. Why don't you try letting your villain do what he wants instead of forcing him to follow your preconceived notions on the plot? If he just sits on his hands or goes off and does his own thing without bothering with the hero, than he's not the real villain of your piece. You might want to consider a new character. And remember, in fantasy we tend to see villains who are purely and irredeemably evil. But sometimes the most intriguing conflicts come between two characters who aren't evil, they're just different. Good versus good can be more conflicted and grittier than good versus evil. Your villain might even believe that the hero is the evil one, and thus must be stopped.
You also might find that your story doesn't have a clear antagonist. Most do, but some are driven purely by the actions of the characters. Sometimes the characters act for good, sometimes for evil. Look at novels like George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. His book is filled with one of the largest casts in any fantasy. There are some unlikeable characters, particularly in the first book. But as the series progresses and more of these characters are given a chance to narrate the story and tell things from their perspective, the reader begins to realize that none of them are really good or evil. They're simply people. And that's why the story is effective. Hope that helps!
Workers were united in resenting the industrial system, but they were divided by ethnic and racial antagonisms.
That is quite simply, false. New matter would be made of atoms, which are made of protons (not positrons), neutrons and electrons. Pair production produces an electron (negative spin) and a positron (antimatter version of an electron, but wiith positive spin) that almost immediately fuse again and cancel each other out. So please explain…why does your electron not merge again with its positron? And where do your new protons (not positrons) and neutrons happen to come from?
